In my Twitter stream today I saw a message about Google's PowerMeter. I assumed it had something to do with computer applications (after all, it was from Google), but was surprised when I saw that this was a tool to measure electricity usage. From the Google PowerMeter website -
Google PowerMeter is a free electricity usage monitoring tool that provides you with information on how much energy your home is consuming. Google PowerMeter receives information from utility smart meters and in-home energy management devices and visualizes this information for you on iGoogle (your personalized Google homepage). And, Google PowerMeter is free.
This would seem to be an interesting tool/concept to discuss with students in context of housing and energy usage. It will be interesting to see how this evolves along with other smart house technology.
This is very cool! I saw this on Twitter a few weeks ago (probably from you) but didn't have time to explore it right then. It would be interesting to see who much energy that our schools are using. I bet the kids could come up with great, practical ideas for energy conservation.
