The 2009 National LifeSmarts competition is taking place April 25-28 in St. Louis. As you may know, Missouri FCCLA coordinates, with financial sponsorship from American Century Investments, the Missouri LifeSmarts program. The coordinator for the program is Merilee Thoenen, one of the supervisors in the Family and Consumer Sciences section at the Missouri Department of Elementary & Secondary Education.
The Missouri LifeSmarts state championship team, from Maysville High School, is serving as the host team. They were interviewed by a reporter from the St. Louis Post Dispatch - you can read the article here. Kudos to family and consumer sciences teacher Kathy Kagay for her hard work with her team. She has some good comments in the article!
You can follow the action of the national event by keeping up with the National LifeSmarts Championships Blog. Finals take place on Tuesday, April 28. You can watch the finals on NextGenWeb that day - 9:00 a.m. Central Time.
Good luck to the Savvy Consumers from Maysville High School this weekend! Missouri FCCLA's own 2009-10 National Network Member, Britt Kagay, is one of the team members. Missouri FCCLA is cheering for you and the rest of the Savvy Consumers team!
