Access FCCLA Review

The 2008 Access FCCLA Conference is complete, everyone has traveled back home and all of the boxes have been unloaded and put away for next fall. Students and advisors spent time on Monday learning even more about leadership skills and FCCLA.

Students in the "Chapters in Action" session were treated to high energy presentations by Lindsay Casmaer (representing the P.A.V.E. program) and Dawn Davies and Jill Myers (representing Action for Healthy Kids). Ms. Casmaer, who was Miss Missouri in 2007, spoke on cyberbullying and Internet safety for teenagers. Ms. Davies and Ms. Myers, both from the Michigan Action for Healthy Kids organization, spoke on implementing AFHK's program "Game On." Our own advisors Renee Meents (Missouri ACTE's 2008 Outstanding Teacher in Community Service) and Dee Kirby spoke to students about the importance of FCCLA's Community Service program and how to utilize resources such as Youth Service America's "Semester of Service" materials. Advisors spent time getting information from speakers Rhett Laubach, Patty Hendrickson, and Collin Danielson. They were able to do some activities just like their students did and also got some great resources for leadership and learning.

Mark your calendars now for October 25-26, 2009!
