Region 14 Planning Begins

As you may know, Missouri FCCLA is growing. For the first time in 30 years, we are adding a new FCCLA region in Missouri. The Kansas City area of the state requested the establishment of "Region 14" and in December 2008, that request was approved by the Missouri FCCLA State Executive Council.

On Monday, June 15, twenty-one people met to begin the process of organizing Region 14. One of the main topics was the boundary line for the new region. It was decided to include the counties of Jackson, Clay, and part of Cass. The final boundaries will be approved by the State Executive Council in July. In accordance with state bylaws, borderline chapters may petition to change regions.

In order to facilitate a smooth transition process, it was decided to appoint "officers-elect" for the 09-10 school year. These students would then become the region's official officers for the 2010-11 school year. The state advisor will develop application materials that will be distributed by early August. The deadline for the applications will be September 1. A screening committee will review the application and determine the interview process. All officer-elects will be required to attend the 2009 Access FCCLA Conference; to shadow a current regional officer of the same position; and to assist with regional events and state STAR Events.

A bylaws committee was formed and proposed bylaws will be due to the state advisor by November 1, so that they may be approved by the State Executive Council in December, 2009.

This transition group will meet again during the Access FCCLA Conference, and any additional advisors or students are welcome to attend. If you'd like to keep track of our progress, you may check the Missouri FCCLA Wikispace, Region 14 Planning Page.

What an exciting time in Missouri FCCLA history!
